FREEPORT — Since 1977, incumbent Citizen’s Party candidate Sheila Hooper has overseen Freeport Township.
That came to an end Tuesday night when independent candidate Patrick Sellers scored a decisive victory of 64 percent to Hooper’s 36 percent to become the next Freeport Township supervisor.
“I’m feeling really good about it,” Sellers said. “The citizens of Freeport really want change.”
Voters decided that Sellers, a family resources coordinator at Blackhawk Elementary School, could better handle the township in assisting the needy while managing the budget.
“The first thing we have to do is regain the trust of the community,” Sellers said. “We have to show taxpayers where the township is going.”
